I can't believe that in a few short days it will already be the end of the first month of the year! Time has definitely flown by. I know typically my blogs revolve more around Marvel-specific topics, but I thought that today it might be nice to just chat with you all and let you know some of what I've been up to behind-the-scenes as a TikTok creator.
At the start of 2023, I really wanted to set myself some goals to achieve for this year, both personally and in terms of my work as a creator. However, I've found that in the past when setting my goals I have really struggled with having an all-or-nothing mindset, and it would make me give up on what I wanted to achieve really really quickly. Like, if I was trying to journal everyday, if I skipped a day of journaling I would just call it quits and never do it again. If I wanted to add workouts to my routine, allowing myself a rest day would just mean that I had failed at my goal, and I would turn that rest day into a rest year. So the first order of business for myself was to remember to give myself gentle reminders and know that I can restart any time. That missing one day or one thing off the list won't derail my entire goal. That quitting just because of perfectionism is a form of self-sabotage on what my own worth and ideals are, and that procrastinating on my goals is only a form of fear because I would be avoiding something so new and different. So with this new and improved mindset, it made making my goals much easier for this year. At the beginning of the year I made a vision board (no, not the joke one that I made about Marvel's Vision, though I was pretty proud of that one ;)). I put a mix of different pictures that represented different aspects of what I wanted this year to look like for me. Some big ones, some small ones. But overall the main theme was to improve self-care and recognize my own self-worth. Then, for the month of January, I made another vision board. This one with pictures of specific narrowed down micro-goals that related to the overall year goals. And I made it the wallpaper on my phone and laptop. That way, I would have the constant reminders of what I was working towards, because it would be right there when I was doing my work. I am so so happy that I decided to make my goals this way, because I already feel so much more at peace, and so much better about the things I am working towards. I stopped procrastinating as much as I used to by sitting down and time-blocking out my schedules for the day and making sure I scheduled time for myself to get some rest, relaxation, and do things that I wanted to do as well. I continued journaling (and not giving up this time!), and I learned to take charge of more things for myself, which I used to be so scared of. And you guys, one of the coolest things happened this month...I made my very own cosplay piece! I have never made any cosplays before, and I really wanted to challenge myself to make something. I'm not going to say exactly what yet, because that's a surprise for now (or, if you want to see behind-the-scenes/early access be sure to check out my subscriber plan on Insta!). But I am so proud of how this piece came out and so excited to showcase this cosplay to you all soon. Probably in the next week, actually! I'm doing some makeup and hair testing before I officially post some stuff, but I am soooooo so excited for you all to see. Hopefully now that I've done my first piece, this will inspire me to make even more! <3 I've also just been really working on making sure that I enjoy the fandom that inspires the skits! I need the input for the output, and I've been trying to continue to fuel that. (If you're also a content creator, please try to remember this! I know for a while I was so focused on making skits with the characters that I forgot to actually take the time to sit and enjoy watching/rewatching content because I was so focused on what I could make of it!). I watched all of Spectacular Spider-Man (which, by the way, is SO good!) and I just started the 1990s Spider-Man cartoons. Also lots of Spidey comics and, of course, the Spider-Man PS5 game <3. I finished the main story the other day and I'm now focusing on DLC's and trying to wrap up the map (those pigeons are the death of me 😭). Overall, I've really been trying to slow down, find time for myself and remember to focus on prioritizing some self-care. And also just trying to find the fun! My mental health has really really thanked me for doing that so far. This month has been filled with building routines and working on myself. And I'm really excited to see what the rest of the year has in store. I love you guys. Thank you so much for supporting me and my content, and wanting to hear more about my life as a creator <3 I love getting to share this journey with you all. You are the greatest!

One of my absolute favorite things about TV shows and movies are the soundtracks that are written for them. Good music can instantaneously enhance a scene to up that dramatization factor by 100! So today I present to you my top five favorite Marvel soundtracks! 5. Avengers: EndgameLiterally adding this just for that Portals song alone. When the music is building as all of the team steps out onto the battle field, I get chills down my spine every time! And all of the callbacks to the original Avengers soundtrack just makes this one so so good. 4. Spider-Man: HomecomingThere was quite literally a period of time where I was listening to "Monumental Meltdown" every day on repeat. And the playfulness paired with switch offs of rising orchestrals just MAKE this for me. I especially love the Spider-Man theme in this one because I feel like it so much reflects Peter's personality. Michael Giacchino did good with this one (as always, tbh) <3 3. WandaVisionOne of my favorite things about the WandaVision episodes was how we got to see so many different eras! And I think Christopher Beck did such an amazing job at composing music to go with all of these different sitcom themes each week. They are so fun! And when we get to the more dramatic and heavy moments in the show, I love what they did to enhance those scenes musically. Especially Wanda's theme when she becomes the Scarlet Witch, ohhhhh my god. Chills down my back. Every time. 2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseYou guys have NO idea how tempted I was to put this as my number one. EVERYTHING about this soundtrack is beyond perfect. Whenever I want to feel motivated or energized, I always throw this on. And I will forever get goosebumps from the main score theme and ALSO the songs that aren't "soundtrack" music. What's Up, Danger gives me chills EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 1. Captain America: The Winter SoldierYou guys. You know I had to put this as my number one. You KNOW I had to. "Fury"? "The Winter Soldier"? "Captain America"? "The Smithsonian"? The list goes ON. Henry Jackman nailed it with this one, you guys. I will never get over how good the music from this movie is.
What are some of your favorite Marvel soundtracks? Getting into comics can feel really scary and intimidating if you’ve never read them before! There are soooo many to pick from with so many different plot lines, and it may feel overwhelming trying to figure out where to start! So today, I’m going to list off some of my favorite Marvel comic series to get you started! (A quick side note: If you're looking to have a little synopsis of what to expect from a few of these series, be sure to check out my Marvel Collabs! playlist on TikTok! I collaborated with Marvel back in the summer of 2021, and they were a huge help in finding a lot of these comics to start off with! Together, we made some videos that reflected the storylines of a few of the runs I've mentioned below. It truly meant the world to get comic recommendations to start out with from the actual comic legends themselves!). 1. The Vision and the Scarlet Witch (1985)If you were a big fan of the WandaVision MCU Era, this is one of the perfect comic runs to get started with! A lot of the themes are similar to that of the WandaVision storyline (Wanda and Vision move to the suburbs to start a family and have some trouble with their neighbors along the way). This one was one of my favorites, as it was so cool to see scenes that were directly tied to certain clips from the show! The art style is beautiful, and you learn a lot more about different characters and their backstories in this one! (A helpful tip: some comic panels will reference older runs, but it always has the number and the title that they are referencing! I found it helpful to have Google on hand so that I could look up a quick synopsis or plot run of whatever comic they were talking about, and any characters they referenced that I was unsure about if I was curious to know more!). 2. Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon (2013)If you're looking for more of that Hawkeye show feel, this run is perfect for you! Matt Fraction and David Aja's storytelling in this run is what makes it one of my absolute favorites. We get to see Clint and Kate team up to deal with street-level crimes, the Tracksuit Bros, Clint helping out his neighbors, and even adventures with Lucky! All of the scenes are fun and action packed, and it definitely makes sense as to why this run is such a popular one for Hawkeye! 3. Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962)If you're as big a Spidey fan as I am, you will for sure love Amazing Fantasy! This was Spider-Man's very first appearance in Marvel comics! It goes through the classic tale that we have all grown to know and love. Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider, has to learn how to get used to these newly acquired spider-like abilities, loses his Uncle Ben, and realizes that with great power there must also come great responsibility. Unlike the first two recommendations, what I am suggesting here is a single comic book! However, if you are looking to read even more Spidey after this, chronologically his next comic appearance was The Amazing Spider-Man (#1-#7). 4. Young Avengers (2005)The Young Avengers is SUCH a fun one to get started with! This run's light-heartedness and coming of age tales of the characters keeps you on your toes. It features many characters that are related to (or have similar powers thereof) some of our most well-known Heroes. And some faces you may already know from the MCU shows and movies, such as Billy and Tommy from WandaVision, Kate Bishop from Hawkeye, Cassie Lang from Ant-Man, and Elijah Bradley from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. 5. Vote Loki (2016)This one is exactly as it sounds. Full of chaos, jokes and (of course) mischief, Loki attempts to run for president! I don't know about you all, but I'm always down for more chaos with Loki, which makes this comic run so perfect. Okay, this is great and all, but Jess...where can I even read these comics?Lots of different places! If you know of any comic shops near you and are looking for some physical comic copies, you can always stop there! My go-to near me as someone who lives in MA is Newbury Comics. Often times, you can buy newer comic books (physical paper back copies), or you can buy a graphic novel of a full run! This just means that it is a whole comic series compiled into one big book :) You can also hit up your local bookstore, as many times they have a graphic novel section that comic prints are sold at.
You can also always order some online! Amazon and marvel.com are great places to look if you're trying to find specific ones to buy. And marvel.com sometimes even has free comics that you can read online to get started if you aren't ready to purchase a comic just yet. I also love using Marvel Unlimited, which is Marvel's comic app subscription service! You pay a monthly (or yearly!) fee, and have access to THOUSANDS of comics to choose from that you can read on your phone or tablet. This is so helpful when you are looking to read a specific comic storyline! And if none of these comic runs look interesting to you to start out with, another great way is to just pick a character you are interested in and find any storyline and jump right in! Usually if there are references to past issues or comic series, there will be an editors note that will help you so you aren't completely left in the dark. There are so many options to choose from, and ways to get started! Wherever you are on your comics journey, I hope you enjoy getting into them! I know for me, it has been such a fun experience reading new comics, learning about new characters, and even seeing how the MCU reflects a lot of the comic storylines! For those of you reading that may have already started reading comics, what are some of your favorites to get started with? Comment below with any comic runs you think are great beginner stories! How are we already on week two of 2023?! I hope you all have had a good start to your New Year so far! I’ve been progressing and starting on some goals I’ve been hoping to achieve for the year, and I wanted to write a blog to share some of that with all of you! But before that, I wanted to give you all a quick reminder. I know for me, it’s often nice to hear this, and I wanted to share it in this space as well. Your goals do not have to be tied to the start of a new year. You can start a goal whenever it seems right. Don’t feel pressured to have an all-or-nothing attitude towards what you want to achieve. Things will take time, and patience, and you can literally start at any point at any time, whether that be January 1st, December 31st, or anywhere in between there. I know a lot of my goals right now are to continue goals that I already started back in 2022. So let’s jump into a few of those here, and also more of what you’ll be seeing of me this year 🙂
More Blog Posts! Of course you’ll be seeing me write even more blog posts as the year progresses. I’m excited to write about the many upcoming projects we have in the MCU and talk more about my love for this fandom. It means so much to me to be able to have a space like this one to discuss and talk about projects as they release. More Cosplays Ah, what is a cosplayer without more cosplays, yeah? I’ve made a few posts about this on my TikTok and Instagram Reels about what my plans are for cosplays this upcoming year, so some of this may sound familiar to you all! I have about five cosplays on my list that I am hoping to add to my cosplay closet. Some of them are still up in the air and just ideas that I have for right now, and obviously as more projects come out I may want to cosplay other characters as well! But for right now my current line up (in order!) is: -Female Winter Soldier -She-Hulk -Cassie Lang -Agatha Harkness -Rapunzel (??) Agatha and Rapunzel are the ones that are most likely subject to change, as the top three are the ones I’m really hoping to do this year! More Photo Posts One thing that I have never done that I’m really hoping to do this year is to take more photos in cosplay! My go-to thing is to always make a skit or video when I get a new cosplay, but I would really love to take more photos or get professional pictures taken of myself as some of my favorite characters <3 and of course, just pictures in general. I want to share more of myself with you all throughout this year! More Content Of course, an obvious one here. I wouldn’t be a content creator without the content! As always, I will be creating more skits and storylines with characters. I’m planning to dive more into the world of long-form videos (if you don’t follow me yet on YouTube, click HERE to subscribe so you don’t miss any! 😊) and share more of my love for the fandom, share some cosplay tips, info about myself, and lots more! And I may also play around with some acting challenges on TikTok and Instagram Reels, using some more audios. Just for fun! And More Conventions! Nothing is set in stone yet for this year, as I am still doing my research and figuring out where and when things are happening, but I am absolutely planning to go to conventions this year! Of course there’s the big one (New York Comic Con!) and I also want to show my love to the little guys as well (FanExpo Boston and Rhode Island Comic Con). And a dream con for me would be to hit up D23, because it seems like SO much fun! As I get more information on if/when I will be going to these cons, I’ll be sure to post about it to let you all know! One of the highlights of my 2022 was to be able to meet so many of you at conventions, and I can’t wait to connect with even more of you this year. Overall, I am excited to jump into more content creation and just enjoy the ride we’re on! I love connecting with all of you and reading your comments and messages (sometimes it takes me quite a while to respond, but please know I see and read all of them!!) and I’m looking forward to another great year. If there is anything specific you are hoping to see from me this year (that you wish for me to continue, or something I haven’t done before) please let me know in the comments or send me a message! I would love to hear from you <3 I can’t wait to see what this year has in store! Happy New Year, everyone! I hope your holiday season was filled with lots of joy, hot cocoa and relax time. I know for me, I had taken a much needed week off of content creation to recuperate and prepare for the coming year. I am so glad I did! I feel so much less burntout and have a new jolt of creativity for the start of the week. Let this be a reminder that no matter what you do for work, it’s important to take breaks and time for yourself to avoid hitting a wall! With 2023 now upon us, I’m so excited that we have a full year line up of Marvel projects on the horizon. And with that, for today's blog I wanted to list off my top five most anticipated MCU projects of the year. Let’s do this! 5. EchoAs all of you may know by now, Hawkeye is #1 on my list of favorite Marvel shows. I loved all of the characters and the storyline, everything! So when they announced that Maya was gong to have her own show, I was so excited! Maya is such an intricate and interesting character, and I'm so happy we get to learn more about her. Plus, I'm curious if this will end up tying into Daredevil: Born Again! I'm most certain it will, since we know now that Maya had such a complicated relationship with Kinpin. 4. Iron HeartGonna be completely honest with you guys. I don't know much about Iron Heart's character besides what we've seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the little bit I've heard about her from MCU TikTok comic book rundowns, but I knew instantly upon learning a little bit more about her how much I would love her character! She is so fun, and I absolutely adored her first MCU appearance. I am so glad she is getting her own show and we are going to be able to learn more about her! Plus hopefully this leads to some fun connections in the future. Armor Wars? Perhaps a Ned and MJ cameo at MIT? I can't wait to see what's about to go down in this show. 3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3After that most recent trailer we got, I am SO stoked for this movie! The Guardians never fail to make me laugh and I'm so excited for more of their humor and shenanigans. I am a little bummed it's going to be our last time with this group though. I have some worries that they are going to kill off Drax and Rocket :( but until then, at least we know we have one more time with them upcoming <3 (plus any chance to see Groot again is good enough for me!). 2. The MarvelsI think we can all agree that we can relate to Kamala Khan's love of Super Heroes, yeah? I adored the Ms. Marvel show and Kamala's entrance into the MCU and I'm super stoked to get more of her in The Marvels! Plus I'm curious to learn more about Carol and Monica as well. With Carol, I feel like even though we've gotten a lot of movies with her, there still hasn't been a lot told about her besides Captain Marvel with her backstory. And with Monica, I'm so curious to learn how she's been handling her new power set! After all the mess she was dealing with in WandaVision, it must be so chaotic for her. I'm sure her and Carol will definitely have some bonding moments over that. Plus, I can't wait to see Kamala FREAK when she gets to meet Carol! And I heard a rumor somewhere that there's going to be a musical number in this one? I'm so curious about it, hahaha! 1. Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaOkay, this is number one on my list for a handful of reasons. Number one, Scott Lang is a HUGE comfort character of mine, and I'm really really excited to see him again! I've missed him so much since Endgame! Number two, I'm very big into taking things as they come, and with this being the next slotted MCU project with a confirmed release date, I am shaking in my boots thinking about how this will open the next phase of the MCU for us. And number three, the plot of this movie just looks SO good. Kang, seeing the Quantum Realm, learning more about Cassie and Scott's relationship after the blip, everything. I have been looking forward to this since they first dropped the news that it was going to even be a movie at all. I haven't been this excited for an MCU project since No Way Home! Definitely my most anticipated of the year. Honorable Mention: Agatha: Coven of ChaosI had to add Agatha: Coven of Chaos to my list as an honorable mention here because I truly am so excited for this show! I think in terms of upcoming MCU Disney+ shows, this is up there on the list for me. However, because it still doesn't have an official release yet, I didn't add it to my official line up (since we're still not sure if it'll be out this year or next!). I love Kathryn Hahn as Agatha so much, Marvel certainly got her perfectly casted, and the cast line up sounds AMAZING (Aubrey Plaza in the MCU? Sign me up!). Plus maybe this means we get our girl Wanda back soon...👀
What are some of your most anticipated Marvel projects for 2023? There are so many to choose from, and I'm so excited to see what's coming next! |
