I know the majority of you follow me for Marvel content. As you all probably know at this point, I definitely see it as my home-base fandom! Marvel is my life blood, and the fandom and storylines I connect to the most. But I think this week I would love to share with you all my thoughts on the series finale of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel if that's okay with you? 🥹🫶🏻
This series, you guys. This is by far my favorite non-Marvel TV series. I seriously loved every single second we got of this show, and I am devastated knowing I will never get to open my Prime account to watch a new episode ever again. But I suppose there is always rewatching, haha! Anyways, getting to follow Midge's journey throughout the course of the show was so inspiring, especially as a young creative myself. I loved her work towards her career, the relationships she built (especially her and Susie) and just getting to watch her grow. I think out of all of the seasons we got, my favorite two were the second season, where she went to the Catskills and the third season, where she got to tour with Shy Baldwin. I think because we got to see different areas and aspects of Midge's life beyond New York, it made it extra interesting! God, I'm going to miss the jokes and the laughs this show gave me. And the costumes?! THE COSTUMES!! Come on. It was SO incredible. Also quick sidebar here, but did you all see that they gave Midge an honorary star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame a few days ago? Some of the show's cast all went to take pictures with it 🥹 I wept. Anywho... My thoughts are scattered all over the place here because I just have so many aspects that I love about Mrs. Maisel. I think the season finale did a really great job of how they ended it, and the fact that all the people she cared about were in that room with her for her big break on The Gordon Ford Show was so special. When Miriam stepped up to the mic and Susie held her hand over her heart with tears in her eyes, oh GOD. I'm tearing up writing this, I just love them so much. I also really liked how this season we also got to see some of what Susie and Miriam's future was like as well. The "flash forwards" were so special each episode and I would love to go back and rewatch now that we have the full picture. And overall, I'm so happy that Susie and Midge reconciled their friendship at the end. That end scene of them watching Jeopardy over the phone was the absolute sweetest. I was convinced that Midge's name was going to be one of the Jeopardy answers or something! I'm surprised they ended up not doing that. I also loved how the lighting changed in her final set, even just for a moment, to reflect Midge's early days at the gaslight. That at her core, we all know she got her start there. Her, and Susie, and their wild friendship. And the brisket! Can't forget about the brisket 😂 It was just such a cool way to reflect upon Miriam's journey and this moment, here and now, before her giant leap into stardom. Overall I think what I really loved about this finale was just how it tied everything together, but still gave us some loose ends that we could decide for ourselves. We may not know Joel's exact fate, or what happens to Midge's parents, or even exactly what Ethan and Esther are doing after the little snippets we received, but I think that's what makes the ending so enjoyable. There is this narrative that we can create for ourselves, deciding the future of the characters based on what we believe would happen. I just loved getting to be able to see parts of their future and parts of their past all intertwined. And at the end of the day, I'm just glad Susie and Midge are still friends. I'm so gonna miss this show. Thank you, and goodnight, Mrs. Maisel <3 we love you to bits.
