Hi friends! I am back from New York Comic Con, and here to talk about the newest Marvel project that we've gotten this past week--Werewolf by Night! My initial thoughts on this project before watching it was that it gave me a lot of Twilight Zone vibes. The fact that it was entirely in black-and-white and had that kind of vintage feel to it made it a very interesting concept just from the trailer. I also found it interesting that Michael Giacchino not only was in charge of the scoring for this, but also directed as well! I've always been such a fan of his scores from other films, so when I heard he was directing this as well I was really excited to see how it came out!
Overall I felt that the plot of the show was really good. I think they did a great job of adding a horror element to the MCU without making it too gory. As someone who doesn't do well with horror and gore, I was super thankful for this fact. I still wanted to be able to watch and enjoy it without having to hide behind my pillow the whole time, hahah! But I also ended up watching this on the train ride home on my phone too, which I think definitely helped since it was on a smaller screen and I couldn't get scared as easily :p I really liked the concept of Elsa coming back to reclaim a family heirloom. I just wish we got more of her backstory! Why did she leave her family? Who was "training" her, as she stated? She was such an interesting character that we only knew a small amount about. I also instantly fell in love with Jack and his kind heart. At first I thought he was just someone who really cared about monsters and wanted to protect them, but it made a whole lot more sense when we found out that he was actually one of them! I don't know why I didn't see that plot point coming, but it was certainly a surprise to me! I also couldn't tell if Verusa was her stepmother? Her mother? My guess is stepmother but it's still a little unclear to me. Maybe my post NYCC exhaustion was just tripping my brain up a little too much hahah! Also Ted was SO cute when he wasn't incinerating people! I loved how he was there for his buddy Jack at the end of the special. You could tell he really saw them as friends and wanted to return the favor for Jack protecting him rather than hunting him. We love a monster-friendship! I really do hope that we get more of Elsa and Jack (and Ted!) in the future of the MCU! I'm curious if/how they can tie them into future projects and if they would be from the 616 universe or tied in another way. I guess only time will tell! It will be fun to look back on this blog post one day and just tell past-Jess all the ways the MCU has changed since Werewolf by Night! What did you guys think? Was it a fun addition to your Halloween specials for this October? Or would you rather not watch again?

I personally enjoyed it. Like you I don't do well with horror and gore, so it was nice to watch a horror movie that was scary. I'm definitely gonna rewatch at some point before the month ends!
